NJIRT - Basic Vertical Workshop The New Jersey Initial Response Team (wilderness and cave rescue) will
host a Basic Vertical Caver Workshop at the Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, NJ on May 17th starting at 08:00.
This class is an entry level class for the novice vertical caver, but
also is a great opportunity for more experienced vertical cavers to
practice on a 80' cliff.
The class will cover:
Vertical caving equipment, Knot tying and Safety.
Practical sessions will include:
Rappelling, climbing, change overs, cable ladders, and belays.
Participants are asked to donate $10.00, split between the team for
rope gear wear, and the Sterling Hill Mining museum to cover the use
of the facilities.
Participants will need gloves, boots, and a vertical style helmet (no
elastic straps, strap must have a quick release buckle)
A limited number of climbing systems will be available for loan on a
first confirmation basis.
Class will run until 4 PM, bring a lunch.
