Welcome to the amazing world of the underground!

Met Grotto is a chapter of the National Speleological Society (NSS), an organization dedicated to the exploration, study and conservation of caves. We serve as a branch arm of the NSS in the Greater New York City area.

Commonly the first point of contact for people interested in the world of caving, Met Grotto aims to introduce as many aspects of caving as possible. These include recreational trips, exploration, vertical techniques, surveying/mapping, digging/discovery, conservation, scientific data, gating/protection, and land-owner relations. Our hopes are to expose members to these paths at basic levels and see them take one or more to deeper and richer points for the rest of their lives.

We organize many trips to local caves around NY State and New Jersey. You can also find members travelling to Vermont, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and TAG (TN, AL & GA). Recent overseas trips include Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ukraine, & China.

Fellowship is a key ingredient in everything we do. From vertical skills to cave locations to karst knowledge, Met Grotto strives to recognize and share each person's strengths.

We are a pure volunteer organization and proud of the continual contribution of our members. Only those who truly love what they do could create such an amazing organization. We hope to hear from you soon.
